Blind Measurement Tips

General Measuring Tips

PLEASE use a metal measuring tape. (Cloth tapes tend to stretch).

Before you measure:

Look at your window and decide whether you want to mount the blind inside the window recess or outside the window on the wall or architrave. We recommend an inside mount whenever possible for a neater look. However, an outside mount can make a window appear larger or hide an unattractive window frame. See the Sill Depth Chart below for the minimum sill depth needed for installation and the minimum needed for the product to be flush with the front of the frame.

Note: Always round down to the nearest 5mm and make no allowances - the factory will do that for you! Indicate that your measurements have no allowances.

Always indicate the WIDTH measurement first, then the HEIGHT last.
(W x H).

Mount Types

Inside Mount

Measuring diagram
Step 1. Measure the width between the inside surfaces of the window frame. Place the tape measure on the inside left of the window frame, pulling the tape across the frame to the inside right, as noted in the Measuring diagram.

Step 2. Repeat this procedure at the top (1), middle (2) and bottom (3) of the inside frame, noting the narrowest width to indicate Width.

Step 3. For height, measure the exact distance to the nearest 5mm from the top inside surface of the window frame to sill, at the left (4), middle (5) and right (6) of the frame. Use the longest length to indicate Height.

If you prefer the blind not to touch the sill, deduct 10mm. If there is no sill, measure the length to the point where the blind is to reach. Don't be surprised if your window is not perfectly square - most aren't.

Step 4. On your notes, clearly indicate which measurement is the width and which is the height. It is very common to mix up measurements. Please indicate if allowances or deductions have been made.

Try to always measure the width first, then height.

Outside/Face Mount

Outside/Face Mount
Measure the exact distance to the nearest 5mm between the outermost points where the blind is to be placed. For optimum light control, this measurement should extend 10mm beyond the window frame on each side. This will make your window appear bigger and hide unattractive windows.

For outside mounts, specify the exact width and exact height you want the product to be.
